The text of this page is based on and translated from my book "Harukanaru Hitou wo yuku" published by Shufu to Seikatsu Sya in Japan at 1989 (ISBN4-391-11232-9 C0026). The book is consisted of 25 stories of my trip while I was about 21 to 36 , just 1974 to 1989. In Japan, many guidebooks of "hotsprings" for domestic tourists are published , however these books are no cultivation with its own , so most of that guidebooks made by announces of the sightseeing federations of all prefectures, that famous, big scale, profitable, modern-days style hotels (correctly ryokan) held very good treatment in the pages. Therefore, the most of Japanese regard hotels standing in hotsprings site as "hotsprings". And I thought so too.
However, this book is a guidebook not to hotspring tourists only but to students, I hope. What the origin states or circumstances between human of this ground and hotsprings and the history of changes are, I want to seek and know after a first trip. But, the study and investigation of this sphere is narrowminded and rough, gets little relative considerations, so few rewards of which bring to the Japanese society. So I have been pursued what the hotsprings are.At the early days, I thought all the hotsprings were in hotel or some establishments , for educated by many guidebooks. While, I found the ruined sites. Why? This book (equal this homage) fill up my work of journey, maybe loose ordinaly to the objects yet, but will introduce you to the unknown hotsprings world.
